In April 2025, BCVFD launched Phase I with the goal to assist just over two dozen homeowners in the Hillcrest area make their homes more defensible in the event of a wildfire. Steep, often inaccessible terrain, combined with dense and highly flammable junipers, complicate fire suppression and protecting homes.
BCVFD was awarded a federal grant, administered by The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC), to pay 75% of the costs of the project. Your 25% share can be met with in-kind labor or a cash contribution.
Interested? Questions? Email: bluecreekfire@gmail.com to begin the process. We’ll come out and meet you for a free home assessment to identify any specific risks to your home and property. If you decide to take part in the 75-25 grant program, BCVFD and contractors will work collaboratively with you to remove hazardous fuels around structures and selectively identify highly flammable fuels for removal. DNRC also has a forester to work with us to assess the health of your property.
